The healthcare industry considers innovation of practices typical to the industry as indispensable for patient safety and comfort. This may include cleanroom consumables such as pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, diagnostics, and equipment used in research activities. For any healthcare institution, professionals must ensure that research activities carry out in an environment that efficiently adheres to the stringent regulations implemented to reduce ambient pollutant levels. Cleanrooms comprise a controlled environment that has a very low level of pollutants such as dust, chemical vapors, or microorganisms. Abundant presence of pollutants may interfere with the overall production process, which subsequently may hamper the quality of the end product.

Professionals use cleanroom supplies in controlled environments to significantly reduce the chances of transfer of microbes and other pollutants. Some of these commodities that find extensive usage in sensitive environments such as cleanrooms include adhesive mats, gloves, wipers, cleanroom stationery, cleaning products, and apparel. Among the aforementioned cleaning products, both cleanroom stationery and apparel fall into further sub-segments to cater to a larger number of settings. Some of the most commonly used cleaning products include wringers, mops, validation swabs, squeegees, cleaning chemicals, and buckets. The sub-segments of cleaning stationery include binders, paper, adhesive pads, notebooks, and labels, whilst the apparel segment includes shoe covers, bouffant, sleeves, boot covers, and others.

Manufacturing sterile pharmaceutical products requires cleanroom technology because it not only ensures prevention of contamination, but also ascertains operator safety when supervising highly potent drug substances. The technology enables healthcare institutions to control and monitor enclosed cleanroom environments, including aspects such as humidity, temperature, pressure, magnetic flux, and electrostatic charge. It also enables institutions to maintain particulates such as hair and skin and chemicals such as grease, oil, vapors, and metal ions at very low levels. The global market for cleanroom consumables in the healthcare sector has witnessed robust growth due to the growing demand for sterile biologics drugs, although accessing skilled cleanroom professionals might emerge as an issue in the near future. Apart from this, the market will likely witness growing demand for novel solutions that meet stringent regulatory norms and high performance expectations from the industry.

In its latest report, Transparency Market Research, a leading market intelligence firm, pegs the value of the global market for healthcare cleanroom consumables at $1.9 billion in 2014. Rising at a positive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.76% between 2015 and 2023, the market will likely reach an estimated valuation of more than $3 billion by 2023. Escalated regulatory attention encouraging better performance of cleanrooms and more frequent production of biological drugs represent the key factors boosting the global market for healthcare cleanroom consumables. The market has also gained impetus from the paradigm shift in the pharmaceutical industry to smaller and more flexible manufacturing facilities across regional markets and the manufacture of niche and targeted therapies. Asia Pacific will likely exhibit the fastest CAGR among the regional segments of the global market for cleanroom consumables. The rapid expansion of the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries aids the growth of the healthcare cleanroom consumables market in Asia Pacific.
